It has been a long cold winter and we are super excited to jump full steam ahead into spring. Now is the perfect time to get your grass ready to survive and thrive in a hot summer with our ultimate guide to spring lawns.

So whatever type of lawn you do have weather it’s small or large, perfect or patchy, you’re a member of the great Aussie lawn-owners club!

It’s no secret we’ve had a long-term love affair with lawn and that they have almost iconic status in Australian suburban culture, but there’s no denying it they take a bit of work.

A little bit of TLC for your lawn over the spring months will help it be lush for the warmer months. Here’s South Coast Landscapes guide to caring for your lawn to have it loving you back.

Aeration is Key!

Turf under areas with high foot traffic can become compacted resulting in tired-looking turf or worn in patches, but to solve the problem aeration is key. All types of turf need air to help the movement of water and let the nutrients seep to the roots, helping your lawn to look healthy and lush.

Dressing it up!

Just like ladies your lawn needs a day where it can get dressed up every every now and again. Cover your aerated area with a suitable top dressing soil or coarse washed river sand. Top dressing mix is generally 70-80% fine organic matter with the remainder being clean sand.

Keep it long will save me!

Mow grass longer and more often in the warm months to keep it healthy, so set the mower a click or two higher. You may be tempted to mow grass very low to reduce the need to mow as often, but this only leads to scalped patches and faster growing lawn as it tries to recover from the damage.

Feed me!

If you do nothing else to your lawn this spring, at least feed me with a fertiliser. Feeding grass can actually help solve weed problems, as your lawn may be able to out-compete the weeds once it starts more vigorous growth. For a quality lawn a good feed of fertiliser is required at a minimum in spring and autumn seasons.
